I urge you to OPPOSE Post-Sandy Hook School
Shooting Gun Control Legislation.
Dear Legislator:
After the Sandy Hook Elementary School
shooting, there has been a frenzy of proposals and plans announced, most
notably by Senator Diane Feinstein, for new draconian gun control legislation.
I urge you not only to refrain from joining in this emotional frenzy but to educate your fellow law makers AND the media AND the public that gun control measures that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms are unconstitutional and therefore you will not support any measures that infringe on that right.
I urge you not only to refrain from joining in this emotional frenzy but to educate your fellow law makers AND the media AND the public that gun control measures that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms are unconstitutional and therefore you will not support any measures that infringe on that right.
By the way, on Sunday, December 17th,
just three days after the Sandy Hook shooting, off-duty Bexar County (Texas)
Sheriff’s Sgt. Lisa Castellano shot and wounded an assailant who had run into a
movie theater with a firearm intending to inflict harm on the patrons. No movie theater patrons were killed and
only one patron was slightly wounded because an armed “good guy” was present to
prevent an armed “bad guy” from doing harm, unlike the Sandy Hook Elementary School
“gun free zone” where innocent children and adults were rendered defenseless
from existing gun control laws.
Reasonable Americans realize that there is
incomparably more protection offered by an armed citizenry than from silly gun
control laws. The movie theater
assailant had already illegally taken a gun into a nearby restaurant and shot
and wounded one of the restaurant workers who had run into the movie
theater. If he was willing to brandish
and point a weapon (crime), point and shoot his weapon at a marked police car
(crime) and shoot a restaurant worker (crime), how could any reasonable person
believe some silly gun control measure would have prevented his rampage?
Note the sad comparison between the founder’s
recognition of how our “security” should be maximized (i.e., the 2nd
Amendment’s right to keep and bear arms “…being necessary to the security
of a free state…” language) and gun control supporters who advocate “gun free
zones”. The “gun free zone” advocates
left many of the Sandy Hook students and staff defenseless, wounded and dead
whereas advocates of the founder’s approach left the San Antonio movie theater
patrons with only one injury that did not even require overnight
hospitalization!
I will be monitoring your public statements
and votes closely. I will only support
legislators who have the courage to tell gun control zealots that their gun
control agenda places us all in grave danger.
I host a radio show as well and will praise courageous legislators who
won’t be bullied into supporting foolish laws but I will ACTIVELY use my
“pulpit” to unseat in the next election any legislator who advocates a flawed
and dangerous gun control agenda.
Sincerely,
Joseph R. Banister
